Minimum rest away from base
Under EASA FTL, rest away from base is often 10 hours with a protected sleep opportunity inside that window. Your OM-A may be stricter. Details: minimum rest EASA.
Protect the sleep opportunity first
Van time, hotel check-in, shower, and food beat sightseeing on a 10, 14 hour layover. Dark room, earplugs, and a hard stop on screens matter more than “making the most of the city.”
Short layover checklist
- Note release and next report in local time
- Confirm hotel and van after parking
- Eat something that will not wreck the rest window
- Set alarms for van / report with buffer
- Optional: see who's on my layover for quiet company, not a big night out
Winter short layovers
Cold weather, early dark, and disrupted schedules make rest harder. Keep layers in the crew bag and assume vans run late in snow or fog.
